Blogging is so weird! Part - 4

Okay, so I've [randomly met someone from blogworld], [purposely met someone from blog-world],  and [been recognized by a follower] which I thought just about covered it - but no, there's another possibility. How about meeting someone from blog-land IN THE PAST?
That's what happened to [Jessica] and I!

(I stole this from her page)

I found Jessica's blog through [Emery's] fashion week way-back-when and I've always been drawn to her. I like her style, her writing, her down-to-earth-ness. I like the topics she writes about and her parenting style. I like her sense of humor and no-drama style of life. She is just all around darling and admirable. She's one of those bloggers I felt like I would be over-the-moon excited to meet in real life. Well, apparently she wanted to meet me too and reached out about it. We tried to arrange a time to get together but it was right before Boyfriend-Fellow and I left the west coast so we had to delay our meeting. Then she saw a picture I posted on Instagram of me in my old stomping grounds and commented that it was HER old stomping grounds too!

"You lived there when?"
"That's when I lived there! I worked at that one cafe!"
"I worked there TOO! I worked there in 2004!"
"Me TOO!!!!"

In the end, through a mutual friend seeing this exchange, we were told that not only did we live in the same city at the same time, and not only did we work in the same place at the same time but she TRAINED me there! She was about to head off to her Scotland adventure and I was the newbie in town.

Neither of us remember meeting each other then. Isn't that bizarre?

P.S. I haven't given up on meeting you again, Jessica. I'll be back in CA pretty often :)

Old ID cards...

I don't know about you but when I need a laugh, I just LOVE looking back on old IDs...

Like this high school one...

Or this Scuba diving license (in 2004)

Or this one for a theme park...
This was for undergrad...

This one was for my east coast graduate school...

And this one was for my west coast graduate school...
Boyfriend-Fellow asked, "Did you know they were taking it?" when he saw this one! HAhaha

In fact, the only picture I've ever really liked okay was my CA driver's license and now I've got to turn that in since we've moved to the east coast!

Do you guys have any gems? Dig em out and share! Don't be shy! Just look at what I posted for inspiration of yours-can't-be-that-bad!

Spring Fashion Week 2013 - Day 7

Well... The day finally arrived. The last day of Fashion Week (sniff sniff). It's been SO fun to get to look through all of the lovely outfits that everyone's been putting together all week! I am so glad to have all these new blogs to read and I've been so incredibly moved by all the sweet comments that everyone has left me this week. Seriously. A HUGE thank you to [Deanna] for putting this on (and just for having such a great blog!)

My favorites from yesterday...

Again, [Charity] just blew me away with her whole outfit and all the details!
I haven't seen [Elle] in one single outfit this entire week that I don't totally want to emulate.
[Judy] looked SO beautiful in her green dress and [Melinda] rocked the 'meeting' outfit with that gorgeous black skirt and pink top!

And onto today's final outfit...
dress - talbots
shoes - target
flower - icing

A big thank you to Boyfriend-Fellow for putting up with me while taking these

Go check out the other participants for today at [Deanna's blog]!

Spring Fashion Week 2013 - Day 6

How much did you LOVE [Deanna's] outfit yesterday? Wasn't she the cutest?
[Maritza] ROCKED the leggings, Charlotte had the coolest background and both [Katie] and [Carolynn] demonstrated sewing skills.

On to day 6 of Spring Fashion Week... This is the outfit I wore to our private tour of the Treasury building.  Ooh la la!

I wasn't feeling adventurous for posing since it was 7am

This dress is the BEST, just in general, but I especially love to wear it for photography sessions... I mean.. it's got the pretty flare and trim, not to mention a high neckline (great for when I need to lean over to take a picture)...

...And it has POCKETS! (for my lens caps)

Oh, and did I mention the back?
dress - boutique in San Diego
necklace - gift from Boyfriend-Fellow (first Christmas gift)
barrettes - gift from my dear friend Haley
boots - DSW
jacket - nordstrom rack
purse - gift from madre

Ready for my close up!

We had such a lovely time touring the Treasury building (though I do confess, before a google search on it, I thought that's where they made the moolah).

Spring Fashion Week 2013 - Day 5

WE GOT THE APARTMENT!!! THE apartment we loved and were crossing our fingers for.

In other exciting news, it's day 5 of Spring Fashion Week! Can you believe it? Time is flying by...

My favorite outfits from yesterday were...
[Rachel's] whole outfit! Head-to-toe perfection!
[Jessica's] sweet coral pants! And her other two outfits are adorable as well (typical Jessica)
[Charity's] very detailed outfit (way beyond just the clothes... She's got awesome nails, hair, shoes and accessories as well)

Today is casual. Jeans, hoodie and a beanie...

beanie - rei
jeans - marshalls
shoes - payless
hoodie - ?
earrings - gift from madre

Thanks to Boyfriend-Fellow for taking all the pictures this week!

Head over to [Deanna's] blog to compliment her headband then see what everyone else is wearing!

Spring Fashion Week - Day 4

Awww, day 4 means we're over halfway done! Boo!
I loved all the outfits yesterday, so much, but [Charlotte] looks especially cold-weather-adorable (just the inspiration I need now that I've moved to the east coast!) and BOTH of [Gretchen's] outfits! Also, did you see how cute [Melinda] was in her ruffle top?

This outfit is remarkably similar to [Elle's] beautiful shirt yesterday (which I hadn't seen before getting dressed today)
It's also WAY underdressed for the cold bite in the air here so I'll be spending the day indoors.

I got this dress from a hippie-dippie store. It literally smelled like incense and hemp. Love it.

I feel kinda like Maritza's in her day 2 [greek goddess outfit] in this dress.

dress - Zebop
locket - from madre
earrings - from pops mcgee

I love this locket because I have a big immediate family (3 siblings, madre, pops mcgee and my stepdad) and it's unfolds to be large enough to hold all of them!

Spring Fashion Week 2013 - Day 3

Holy wow, yesterday was full of amazing stylish women! [Maritza] looked like a cross between a greek goddess and The Little Mermaid. And did you guys see [Rachel's] lovely, bright outfit? Or [Judy's] floor length, fabulous dress?  I love Fashion Week...

So... Remember I said we were house-sitting? Well, I tried to pack light, not planning for Fashion Week so I don't have a lot of my clothes and accessories to mix and match. Hence the same boots and no necklace.
You've been warned.

jacket - nordstrom rack

dress - thrifted (originally from Old Navy)
boots - DSW
flower - Icing

It's COLD here! My nose will match my dress soon.

Thanks again for all the love yesterday!
Don't forget to head over to the lovely [Deanna's blog] to see what everyone else is wearing!

Spring Fashion Week 2013 - Day 2

Thank you all so much for all the lovely comments yesterday! I hope that everyone participating in Fashion Week is feeling all the love! Everyone looks so fabulous. I especially adored [Katie's] enthusiasm, [Carolynn's] recreation of one of Deanna's outfits and [Modest Momma's] timeless classic style.

Today I had a REAL photographer (i.e. not tripod). Boyfriend-Fellow kindly agreed to snap these pics and it only took 10 photos instead of 100 to get ones where I don't look nutso.

dress - thrifted (buffalo exchange)
boots - DW
cardigan - bunny's (santa cruz)
necklace - idle hands boutique in santa cruz (but you can find it [here])

Don't forget to head over to [Deanna's blog] and see her stellar kicks as well as what all the other ladies are sporting!

Spring Fashion Week 2013 - Day 1

How's that for a creative title?

But seriously, I'm excited!!! It's finally Spring Fashion Week, hosted by the fabulous Deanna (thank you thank you!)

If you're new to Fashion Week it's basically 7 days of posting what you're wearing (no pressure to be a perfect ensemble), then you go around and check out the amazing outfits linked up on Deanna's blog. Everyone is so sweet and supportive and it's a free boost of confidence that lingers for weeks.

I ALMOST didn't get to participate today... We're house-sitting, I had a photoshoot, it was cold outside... All reasons that would shut me down from participating in something like this if I didn't know how much fun it is. All this to say I didn't really plan out this outfit, it's just one of my go-to's.

dress - Talbots
boots - DW
hat - ?

This was my first photo. Can you tell I was excited?

Question About Safety

So, as I embark on being a photographer full-time, I'm starting to face an issue I hadn't thought through... Stranger-danger.
Every photo job I've done has been for a friend or a friend-of-a-friend or a friend-of-a-friend's-friend.... You get the picture (har har).

How does one remain safe as a photographer?

People have told me, "Just meet with everyone in a public place."

But what about a newborn session? What if a mom contacts me and says she'd love to have me take pictures of her new baby. Do I tell her I won't go to her house without meeting her at a coffee shop first? Even if I do meet with her elsewhere first, if she's a criminal, she still might not rob me or something when I'm in her house.

And what about during the winter months when outdoor photographer isn't possible on the east coast? I had been planning on having a home studio but now that doesn't seem like a good idea if I don't want to give out my address to strangers.

Any advice from anyone who has navigated this would be super appreciated!

Fashion Week is Approaching

Deanna, from DeliriousRhapsody, is once again hosting Fashion Week! I'm so excited!

I thought it a bit funny though... The first time I participated in Fashion Week was [Spring 2010] and I was living at my mom's, having recently left graduate school.

Now, it's Spring 2013 again and I'm living at Boyfriend-Fellow's mom's, having recently left graduate school.

Funny how that goes.

Our furniture got delivered today and, not really related to that, I'm finally starting to feel settled... We left Southern California on March 26th and got here on April 5th because of our Northern California stopover. It's been great here for the most part but the first couple of days, especially my birthday were a little hard. I would get worked up over small things and cry at the drop of a hat.

I have been a busy bee because my deep fear is that I won't 'make it' as a photographer. So I've been putting up flyers, handing out business cards, meeting with potential clients and applying for advertisements in the paper as well as church bulletins like mad.  It's a little weird because we'll be moving about an hour away to D.C. around mid-May to early-June so I'm currently investing in a place that won't be my business base but so it goes... It wouldn't make much sense to sit on my hands until then either.

Tomorrow we go check out a potential apartment and I'm really stoked about that.

Are you going to participate in Spring Fashion Week? (the correct answer is yes)

Made it!

Well, after a brief, busy stop in the Bay Area and four days in the car (3 of which included Subway for lunch*^), we made it to the east coast on Friday! Apparently, I was the first person to ever order the 'side of fresh vegetables' at the restaurant we stopped at in Salt Lake City. The chefs didn't know what to do.

Immediately, on Saturday, I had my first meeting with an east coast bride and it went great! I'll be photographing her wedding in September.  So now I have 5 weddings booked! Whoo!

Sunday was a mind-trip because while celebrating Boyfriend-Fellow and my birthday at his grandma's house, I realized it was exactly a year ago that I visited Boyfriend-Fellow's family for the first time and we celebrated his birthday at his grandma's house...

Today we checked out neighborhoods in DC and it was super fun pretending that each new place was our new 'hood.  We'll probably continue to crash with Boyfriend-Fellow's parents for another month or so to save on rent and get our bearings but if the right place opens up, we'll snag it. I can't wait to nest.

*Traveling across the country as a vegetarian = bleh.
^Never again, Subway. Our relationship has changed.

And now, the photo dump...

Have you ever done the cross-country trip? Which route did you take, how long did it take and where did you stop?
