Aerial Silks

Some of you (well, Charlotte) asked how the photoshoot went when I had all that lens trouble (remember?).
It was an aerial silks shoot and it actually worked out pretty okay, given the circumstances. I'd really like to reshoot it with a non-broken lens and backlighting but still...
Charlotte also asked for pictures so here ya go!
This is what I got with the broken lens...
And this is what I got with my non-broken lens...

Awkward/Awesome vol. 74

Here's Thursday's Awkward/Awesome installment!

Awesome: Getting a new puppy!
Awkward: ....That we can't walk for 6 weeks for risk of him catching a puppy disease (like Parvo)

Awesome: Taking Ozzie shopping for puppy-supplies.
Awkward: Accidentally shoplifting over $100-worth of puppy clothes (they were on the counter so I thought they were ours and I grabbed them... We realized an hour later....)

Awesome: My AWESOME fake tattoo (yes, it's a winking cupcake).
Awesome: It's scented!
Awkward: I was wearing it when Boyfriend-Fellow and I went out to a fancy dinner.
Awesome: Despite (or because of?) that, the server liked us so much he brought us free appetizers and dessert.

Awesome: I forgot to mention that last week, one of the highlights of my whole trip was getting to visit Brutharrr at his awesome work and eat at his favorite lunch place and hang out watching funny videos and going to a speakeasy (love you Brutharrr! Thanks for being such a great host!)

Awkward: Needing 36 books to destroy for a craft project.
Awesome: Actually getting 36 free books donated from the library for said project.

Awesome AND Awkward: When I visit Pops, I don't have to bring PJs cuz I can just wear his sweats.

Awesome: Madre made roasted vegetables and not only were they delicious, they were beautiful!

Let me know what's been fantastic
and not-so-fantastic in your week!

New Puppy - Ozzie

Ever since our puppy (our 15-year-old puppy) passed away (see here), the other dog, Phoebe (a.k.a. Le Wee Devil, Beelzebub's Little Helper, She-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named...), has been a wreck. She's the Thunder-Jacket type of needy so my dad knew it was either get a new puppy playmate or resign himself to having groceries delivered for the next few years.

So we looked at some puppies...

And picked a gorgeous Australian Shepherd.

What's weird is that the plan actually worked...
"Can we be friends?"

Phoebe was stand-offish and has, for the most part, either ignored the puppy or seemed annoyed by it. But she's not shaking, she's not whining... Balance has somehow been restored.

We named him Ozzie (cuz it sounds like 'Aussie' and, as I said above, he's an Australian Shepherd)

For your viewing pleasure...
Here are his siblings

Here is him with Brutharrr

And here's his adorable whine-while-scratching performance.

Awkward/Awesome vol. 73

Happy Thanksgiving!
(And awkward/awesome day!)

Awesome: Voila!

Awkward AND Awesome: The guy singing at the top of his lungs in the bathroom at a coffee shop

Awesome: Walks with Pops McGee

Awkward: My choice of packing an egg sandwich for the bus (bad smell for a cramped space).

Awkward: My cousin's big dog wants to be a lap dog.

Awkward and Awesome: Being sent to buy clothes for my boss.
Awkward: Trying them on and sending pictures for her approval.

Awkward: I don't think they were expecting rain...

What's been funny and awkward with you guys?

Awkward/Awesome vol. 72

Awesome: I got asked to do a photography shoot, of a woman doing aerial silks this weekend.
Awkward: I really needed my dad's lens (I pretty much only have a portrait lens myself)
Awesome: He mailed his nice lens to me

Awesome x 2: The shoot was in this really awesome space in LA
Awkward: Because of LA traffic, I was an hour late getting there
Awkward x 2: It was only a 2 hour shoot.

Awkward x 3: When I finally got to the shoot and tried to use the lens, it was broken (jammed)
Awesome: Pops had insured it
Awesome x 2: I stayed with my best friends who live near L.A. that night after the shoot
Awkward: When the insurance company called about the lens, they said they needed to inspect the original packaging.... which I had thrown out while staying at my friend's house. DOOOHHHHH.
Awesome: Because of Veteran's day, the trash hadn't been taken out.
Awkward: Having to ask my friend's dad to dig through the trash for me.

What's been awkward and awesome with you?

Birthday Brutharrr

Happy belated birthday to my fantabulous brother!

I have such a different relationship with my siblings. My little sisters are my cubs and my brother is my built-in-best-friend.

Happy campers

My job was professional brother-annoyer

Brutharrrr, I'm not always the best communicator. I am often lacking in the sistress and bestie department. But I love you with all my heart and just admire you so much. I'm so glad I get to see you soon and have lots of Brutharrr adventures!

Awkward/Awesome vol. 71

Hello lovelies!

First off, thank you for all your sweet comments on my last post. It helped a hard day. He was a wonderful dog, who was very loved and had a long life. We all cherish the time we had with him but we will still miss him of course.

Now, seeing that it's Thursday, it's time for some mortifying and magnificent moments!

The scene: I participated as a mentor in an an all-day event this weekend for young women who have been nominated as community leaders.
Awesome: We had been sitting for much of the day so I was very happy to have a speaker that had us stand up to illustrate a point she was making.
Awkward: After a few minutes, when we sat back down, a small girl came up to me and let me know that my dress was tucked into my underwear. Which was itself bunched into a wedgie. There were at least 40 high-schoolers (who I'm supposed to inspire) behind me to witness this.

I always thought when I grew up, I'd leave classy lipstick smudges on coffee cups.
Awkward:  It looks like a horse with lipgloss had a go at this cup.

Awkward and Awesome: In the class I've been taking, I've had to fill out a lot of surveys. Some of the questions are just...

Awkward: I spent 9 hours over the weekend designing an art piece for a flyer that ended up being not being used due to bureaucratic reasons. Ugh!

Awkward: I ran out of contacts for my left eye so I've been wearing my right-eye prescription in both eyes. It's not way off, just weird.

Awkward: A candle of mine started smelling real funky. So I moved it outside to take to the trash.

Awkward x 2:  It was so hot the sun melted the whole thing and my entire front porch smelled like the funky candle.
Awkward x 3: Then a skunk sprayed my front door.
Awesome: I actually kinda like that smell (when it's not too strong).

Sadness (Buster)

Today is a sad day.
We had to put Buster down.
Well, my dad did. I was too far away and so was Thanksgiving break (when I'd be able to come home).
18 year old me and 6 year old Buster

He was always such a people pleaser.
He was the most voluntarily obedient dog.
Look at those perked up ears!

The only exception to the obedience thing is that he didn't care for baths (as you can see below), so when he knew bath time was coming, he'd find a corner to wedge himself in so as to make it harder to pick him up and put him in the tub. But my dad eventually trained him to hop in the tub to have his paws washed after their daily walk (how cute is that?!).

One of my most favorite things about him was that he always had the right instinct but trouble carrying it out. For example...
Instinct: Wag his tail
Actuality: He'd wag his whole backside in every direction.

Instinct: Catch a tennis ball
Actuality: He'd clamp his jaws shut too soon and the ball would often bounce off his snout or teeth. A

Instinct: Lift his leg to pee
Actuality: He would not lift his leg enough and accidentally pee on it.

Speaking of pee, when he got too excited, he'd always pee a little. On the day we picked him out, we riled him up too much and he rolled over and peed on himself.  It was adorable.

He was almost 15 (his birthday was in January), which is about 103 years old in dog years!

Here he is as a puppy (with Brutharrr).

We will miss you Buster.

Variable Drying Times

I am just LOVING the Fall but there's one mystery I forget about every year until it's puddle season...

Why is it that when I go to fix my hair after a shower, it's miraculously dried in the funkiest arrangement possible in the few minutes that have elapsed...

....when the asphalt is just THINKING about making a puddle, the bottom of my jeans somehow becomes moist for the next 24 hours?
That spot there, right there.

Does this happen to anyone else?!

Awkward/Awesome vol. 70

Happy Day-After-Halloween!

Time for an Awkward/Awesome Thursday

Awkward: Seeded grapes (Even the name! 'Non-seedless' grapes? Who knows)

Awesome: My hair is getting long enough to put it up (sorta).

Awkward: Saying I want a 'tall' or 'grande' drink when I'm at anywherebutstarbucks.
Awkward x 2: Saying I want a 'small' or 'medium' at Starbucks (You don't have to correct me, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!)

Awkward: Boyfriend-Fellow's phone

Awkward: Wearing the same costume as last year. At least my boyfriend is original.

Awkward: Whatever happened to this fountain

Awesome: Littlest-Little's 10th birthday party!

Awkward AND Awesome: Texts with Boyfriend-Fellow

He would actually say that, too

Awkward: Calling a guy's dog a girl when it was a boy.
Awkward x 2: When he corrected me, I said, "Oh yes, sorry, I just noticed."
Everyone involved heard what I was really saying "I just noticed your dog's genitalia."

Awkward: Accidentally wrapping a gifts for one of The Littles in alcoholic advertisements.

Tell me what's been awkward and awesome about YOUR week!
