Last day of Fall Fashion Week

1. Yesterday
So yesterday, I went to a magical place of WALL-TO-WALL TRAMPOLINES!!! I kid you not!  Oh, and pumpkin-carving and enchiladas and photo-seshes.  With my best friends*.  Basically, the perfect Saturday.
*except my brother... Sadly, he wasn't there.

YES! The moment I'd been waiting for!!!

Attempting to wipe face without smearing ooey-gooey pumpkin guts all over
Mmmmm..... delicious!
2. Saturday's Round up!
AH! I can't believe Fall Fashion Week is over! That really flew by!  Thanks soooooooo much to Emery for hosting (again).  Especially while being pregnant AND already having two little ones.  And thank you to all of you!  I could feel the love and goodwill oozing out of the interwebs every single day.
While I haven't yet gotten a chance to comment on everyone's outfits yesterday, I still enjoyed looking at all of them! And I mean ALL of them.  Each and every lady (and the occasional guy that joined in) has such a great, unique style.  I've loved see the variations on each person throughout the week.

Being as it was Saturday, it made sense that a lot of people were rocking the comfy and chic look (perfectly emulated by Brittany with her Toms and floppy beanie).
Jess's outfits and photos always have a comfy yet dramatic feel to them.
Marisa and her boy were all matchy-match in plaid.
Charlotte is adorable posing in her 'comfy-as-a-hug' outfit at the library.
Love how Mandy consistently makes her baby bump into such a fashion statement!
Apparently there are people who can just 'throw together' an outfit right-quick and look as good as Noelle. Sigh.....
Love Danae's stripes and ruffles, Jessica in green and the sheer variety in bebe bird beck's ensemble.

3. Today

Today I'm dressed for a day of fun with the littles.  Tonight, trick-or-treating!!!

P.S. Costume pics to follow soon.

P.P.S. Thank you all for the lovely, lovely comments.  I've read and appreciated all of them and will do my best to get back to any question ones asap.

Fall Fashion - Saturday

Today I am dressing for mess-making... I'm rushing out the door to my one of my dearest friend's house to carve pumpkings, bake pies and do all other manner of fall-related things.
Bigger little wanted to join the fun!

Littlest-little was still in her 'lucky PJs'

shirt - target
shorts- target
boots - aldo
necklace - a&e

Happy Saturday everyone.  Don't forget to see what everyone else is wearing here.

Someone turns 8 today (and it's not me)

Today's outfit is about comfort.  I'm home with the sissles to celebrate the littlest-little's 8th birthday (recognize that garage-background from spring fashion week?).  Therefore, I needed to dress for running errands, cleaning up, etc.  Don't worry, there was spoon-licking and cake-icing too.  ;)

shirt/sweater - thrifted
jeans - wet seal
shoes - target
bow - claire's

With all the flights, driving, preparing the house for party, studying for the GRE and cake-eating, I'm falling behind in comments... but don't you love when you find one last present after everyone has left your party?  Yeah, my comments will be like that.  All sneaky-like.
Happy littlest-little's birthday, everyone!  Don't forget to check what everyone else is wearing over at Emery's!

Takin' a Trip Today Thursday

Yay! It's Thursday! This evenin' I hop on a flight to go visit the littles!  Littlest-little is turning EIGHT.  I'll believe it when I see it.

Today's round up is on trends... Did you guys notice the really awesome matchy-matchiness we had going on?  All this circular inspiration must be putting people on the same brain wavelength!
BebeBirdBeckAnna, Nichole, Megan and Erin were all rockin' the awesome yellow/mustard color!
Claudia, Christina, Jessi and Marcella were all looking cute in stripes.
I wish I could sport the big hat trend as amazingly as Emery, Bavonia, Lea, Autumn and Chelsea!
Looking great in the tights-with-shorts department, we had Megan, Marisa and Sophie.
Aaaand Jessica, Marquesas and Katy were all making me want to add a vest to my wardrobe stat!
Apparently Talia got the memo...  not only did she have a big hat and stripes, she also had boots with buttons just like Charlotte and Katie!
Lastly, though it doesn't fall into the coincidence category, I think  Molly and VesselUntoHonour deserve a mention for how adorable their custard outing is.

On to day 4....
As I've said before, my favorite color combo of all time is blue + a different shade of blue.  Voila!
(There's apparently always something
interesting to look at that one corner...)

But the real excitement for me comes with my new coat (well... new to me)!!!
(See? Excited!)
(I think far-right Rachael is looking at
middle-Rachael's ridiculous pose with incredulity)

coat - thrifted
dress - thrifted (Only 4 bucks!)
belt - thrifted
shoes- aldo
octopus necklace - a cool boutique in Santa Cruz
that I can't remember the name of.

Happy Thursday everyone!  Go spread the love.

Day Three

Wow, this week is flying by!
I'm loving all the love, btw.  Everyone is so sweet and encouraging and wonderfully creative.  Yesterday was a great day 2!

This outfit was particularly adorable.
This outfit was particularly perfect.
This outfit was particularly inspiring.

Great tips from Tiffany on how to style a jean jacket.

Alicia and Megan have such cute poses!

Marisa, Kristin, and Harmony all look like they're taken right out of a fashion spread, both photography and style-wise!

I'm really enjoying seeing all the headbands and hair accessories (such as on Mrs. Blimes, SomisSurferGirl, Shawni and Mandy) and thought I'd step mine up a notch.  Unfortunately, this doesn't 'pop' with my dark hair.  Boo!

So I love this dress I got but it's obviously way too short.  So I put a longer skirt on underneath and added a cardigan to make it more work-place (and San Francisco-weather) appropriate.

cardi (Bunny's in Santa Cruz)
dress - thrifted
skirt - nordstrom's
shoes - target
headpiece - claire's

Remember, it's never too late to join!  Skylana, Kim and bebe bird beck just joined yesterday and I'm so glad they did as they blew me away with their amazing outfits).  Just snap a picture of what you're wearing today and head over to Emery's to share it with the rest of us.

(I don't think anyone needs reminding to check out the other amazing fashion over there.... everyone's doing a great job spreading the love).

Tuesday, October 26, 2010

It's only day 2 of Fall Fashion Week and I'm having a blast already!  It was so much fun to see everyone's amazing outfits.

I was impressed with big buttons, amazing smiles and adorable poses.
Autumn, Mandy, Adriana and Em-Jae really got blew me away with their unconventional layering, mixing and matching.
Marquesa's vintage + prairie + anthro look was pretty awesome.

And I was FLOORED by every detail of this SomisSurferGirl's amazing outfit.  Seriously floored.

Thank you guys so, so, so much for all the wonderful comments.  They made my day.  I giggled when I read your comment, Charlotte, cuz yeah, I'd say I'm pretty tall.... 6 feet.  I guess I figured my ginormousness was obvious to everyone else cuz I'm used to it, but it's interesting to me that anyone might see me as anything but a behemoth (and 'dainty'?? I never thought anyone would call me that!  Awesome).

And now, onto Tuesday.... I'm joining on the boots & dress bandwagon, sported so well by Lea, Rebecca, Danae, Sabrie, Laura, Katie and Sandy.  Now Helen also wore boots + a dress but she and I have one more thing in common.... PUFFY SLEEVES!

This is my go-to happy fall dress. :)  I got the idea for long-sleeved shirt + spring dress = autumn fashion from this post by AlreadyPretty.

dress - thrifted
puff-sleeved shirt - h&m
belt - charlotte russe
boots- aldo
tights- dunno
hair flower & necklace - claire's?

Can't wait to see what everyone else is wearing! Jet over to Emery's page fill your eyes with gorgeous fashion.

Day 1 of Fall Fashion Fun!

I assure you I picked out this oufit yesterday, BEFORE seeing Emery's outfit.  Though my fashion is heavily influenced by her, I wasn't trying to go all copy-cat today.

First I tried with socks.

Nope, the socks got nixed.  But then I felt I needed a prop...

Jeans- wet seal
Shoes- target
belt - a&e
shirts- target
headband- Ruby (from Haight St)

Hope you have a great Monday!  Hop on over to Emery's page to see what all the other participants are wearing (and show your love!).

Remember, it's never too late to join! You get an entry into the giveaway (and sweet comments) every day you participate this week.

My Nest

Okay, I'll show you my nest but only if you promise to keep in mind it's a work in progress.  I have so many ideas for my space but the first step was making things fit and putting everything in it's place.
So, without further ado...

Below: I fell in love with this vintage sewing table I got on the east coast and couldn't part with it when I came home.  The treasure chest has been keeping my very favorite tiny things since I was 10.  The wall decal above my bed is a chalkboard!

Below:  My aunt gave me some old heirloom china as well as these hefty medical books & hair brush + mirror set.  Not to worry, the bone is a cow bone.  And then there's my closet space.  Lastly, my desk with one of my most prized possessions: my fairy lamp (my dad made it!)

Hopefully soon, these after photos will be befores.

P.S. Don't forget tomorrow's FALL FASHION WEEK! Eeep! So excited! I can't wait to see what you guys come up with. :)

Weekend in the City + Fall Fashion Week

I had such a PERFECT weekend that I just had to share, despite my untimeliness (seeing as it's almost Wednesday).  I got to cross off both generic and specific things I've been wanting to do in the city....

1) I ate delicious food.  Specifically, I tried new types... Ethiopian, which I LOVED and italian sushi which is basically sushi with all the regular stuff plus tomatoes and parmesan cheese... also yum!  And I ate food I already knew I loved (and have been craving) ...Enter iced pumpkin cookies and crepes with nutella, banana and whipped cream.  Delish!

2) Two sets of friends came to visit me and see my new place!

3) I had a picnic in Golden Gate Park.

4) I saw a movie at a cool little theater where the popcorn wasn't greasy, there weren't any commercials, the seats were like La-Z-Boys and the setup was more like a comedy club than a theater.

 5) I FINALLY got to visit 826 Valencia Street (read more about it here.  Basically, it's a cool project started by one of my favorite authors, Dave Eggers).

6) And a bit of shopping for my new apartment as well as some thrifting.

But, while last weekend was fun, I'm looking forward to next week even more because it's finally here!!!
Fall Fashion Week!

Are you in? I do hope so!  Here's what you'll win:
1) Motivation to coordinate your outfits a bit more than usual
2) Inspiration from the other blogger's amazing ensembles every day
3) A massive self-confidence boost from the sweet comments of all the lovely ladies, who are always so supportive.
4) A chance at the giveaway prize from the host, the lovely Emery Jo, which this time around is a $50 gift certificate to Forever 21...  practically is enough for 10 outfits.
Read more about the details of Fall Fashion Week here.

I had a lot of fun last time and I can't encourage you enough to participate.

Did YOU guys have a great weekend?  Are you joining in fall fashion week?

Oh dear! I never told you about my wonderful trip to upstate New York with my lovely madre.

(Shhh! Don't tell her I posted this or I'll be in trouble!)

Talk about perfect timing to be on the east coast! We got to:
...experience some quintessential fall-ness....

...go to the Apple Harvest Festival....

....and, the purpose of our trip, attend a wedding (this was the view behind the altar)....

This is what I wore to said wedding (and yes, that's a giant chessboard)....
(photos of me were taken by my mother)

I hope you are having a lovely week and if not, it's more than halfway through.

And a nater fing

When biggest little sets her mind on something she throws herself completely into it.  Art projects, helping a friend, putting on a play... you name it.  A good example is her creative spelling.... She knows what she wants to say and she doesn't let her lack of knowledge of a particular word's spelling slow her down.
This has led to the cuuuutest poems, notes and stories over the years.  My mom recently found this definition of a pack rat she wrote when she was just a wee little and I just had to share!

If you can't read her words:
A pakc rat is a cinde of rat.  It findes staf. And it findes a nater fing then it findes a nater fing.

If you can't understand her words:
A pack rat is a kind of rat.  It finds stuff.  And it finds another thing then it finds another thing.

*Disclaimer: Obviously, as she's gotten older, she's become a much better speller.  Speaking of her getting older, isn't she just turning into such a lovely lady?!

I can't believe it.  She used to be such a little baaaaby!

Good thing

Good thing I don't have a boyfriend cuz if I did, I'm pretty sure he would've broken up with me this morning to avoid having to move that couch in.

In fact, I think there were moments there today where my dad regretted having a daughter.

Christmas in October

(Dancing at a wedding)
I have the best faja ever... Check it: Not only did he let me stay at his house for almost two months (rent free!) but I stayed in his room.  He never once complained about lack of personal space or having to turn the TV down or the uncanny way my Bare Minerals makeup ended up sprinkled all over the bathroom counter morning after morning (sawwy).

It doesn't stop there..... When I moved into my apartment in the city rather suddenly, I ended up without a lot of essentials (like anything to sleep on).  I was planning on snuggling on top of a pile of my clothes for awhile but as soon as Pops got wind of that, he drove up with some supplies asap- including a knife, tea kettle and mattress topper....what more could a girl want?  (we-ellll... a pony, for one.  And my big-girl-bed back.  And my espresso machine.  And my couch and .... you get it).

AAANNNnnndddd, without me even so much as asking, he rented a Uhaul for this weekend to help me move my stuff out of storage!  Tomorrow!

Now, don't get me wrong... It's been to squat at my studio, eating every meal out of a sectional plate and quenching my thirst via a pig mug (see below), but my parents both did a spectacular job outfitting me with all manner of adorable house supplies when they thought I'd be in upstate New York for 5-7 years.

Long story (very) short, my out-of-Cali stint ended up being a mere 5 months and the stuff disappeared into storage back in January.  Now, when you live without 90% of your material possessions for 8 months it has several effects:
1) You learn what's important.
2) It's enlightening and refreshing to not be bogged down... to be able to pick up and move in 45 minutes is wonderful.  I'm definitely inspired to downsize my mass of stuff once it's out of boxes.
3) When you haven't seen something in that long and then get it back, it's like it's brand new. Like Christmas.  Like Christmas in October.*

Squee! So excited for tomorrow!

Are you a minimalist or a pack rat?  Doing anything fun this weekend?

*I totes stole this saying from my brutharrr who cleverly refers to his birthday as 'Christmas in November.'

Time, time, time

I've been regaling my family and friends with tales of my newfound joys of solo living without a 5 hour commute (i.e. "Yesterday, I didn't prep my omelette the night before... I made it from scratch!")

During one such gloating ("Oh, oh, the other day, I didn't lay out my outfit the night before, and, here comes the best part.... after I put it on, I decided to wear something different and changed outfits!"), my brother looked at me and said, "This is like listening to some African sweatshop child's brand new amazing job at Walmart."

HAhA! I love my brutharr.
